Q: Dressing for a summer wedding when you have no idea what the attire is (and your date is absolutely no help)
Q: I love the romper trend, but I’m scared to try it in public because think I’m too short to look good in them. Should I even bother?
Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do our sticky boobs decide to abandon ship when we’re on the dance floor?
Q: My friend is so much fun and goes partying every night. I love going out too, but sometimes she pressures me into going out when I have other things I want/need to do, and lately she has been getting pissed at me because I haven’t been able to hit the bars as much. How do I tell her I can’t go out all the time, without upsetting her?
Q: One of my best friends from my childhood has started going down the wrong path. She used to be such a good girl and have her head on her shoulder and now she is starting to hang out with the wrong people and do drugs. It’s really changing her personality and I feel like our friendship is fading away because of it. I haven’t said anything to her yet because I just don’t know what to do… How should I let her know it’s bothering me and affecting our friendship?
Unfortunately at some point, most girls come into contact with drugs. It’s how you deal with it that matters. Your friend was one of those that has fallen into the trap of drugs and probably doesn’t realize what it’s doing to your friendship but most importantly herself. The best thing you can do is have a girls night and bring it up to her in a nice way. Definitely don’t be aggressive about it or accuse her of anything up front.
We're often inspired by female entrepreneurs, but when we had a change to connect with Melody Munn of Warner Robins, GA, we found her to be exceptionally cool. Bouncing out of a boring 9-5 to start her own design firm is just the beginning. Thanks to her "basic/edgy" style she also has a popular blog chronicling her incredible fashion sense, daily life, and talented design work. More importantly, in what can be a shallow world of social media, Melody was one of the nicest chicks we've ever had the pleasure of talking to. Cheers to you Melody, you've got a fan in us!

Q: I have one really really high maintenance friend. She just is so demanding and I'm just not sure I can deal with her anymore! She wants to hang out all the time, and gets mad if I don't make plans with her. If I don't call her back she freaks, if we're texting she calls me and gets mad when I don't answer. How do I tell her I need her to chill or I can't be friends with her anymore?
A: Me, I would tell her straight up, just like that. “You need to chill out or I can’t do this anymore.” I can’t stand friends like that, people up your ass. I dated somebody that was like that although to the tenth degree, overly attached and controlling - it’s the worst feeling. A friend should never make you feel guilty for having a life and OTHER friends. I would encourage her/him to hangout with their other friends and fill their time with other hobbies. Take a break. This doesn’t mean the whole friendship goes down the drain but 'holy shit something needs to change.' Some people don’t learn lessons until someone spells it out for them, it’s not a bad thing, it’s just a higher risk. You can't control other people, you can only control yourself and hope for the best. :)
Q: I really love fashion, and pride myself on being a bad ass stylist, however I'm a little shy when it comes to interacting with other people. How do I get the confidence to come out of my shell in an industry full of extroverts?
We got to know up-and-coming beauty and fashion blogger Lauryn Hock from Lauryncakes , and hear all about her inspiration to start Lauryncakes following a surgery last year.
NTYLS: Tell us all about Lauryncakes babe...
LAURYN: Lauryncakes is a beauty and fashion blog filled with stories of my everyday thoughts. I like to try and connect my outfit inspiration to ideas that happen in my life. The hope is that my readers will find outfit ideas and beauty hacks to make life a little more pretty.
Q: I have an edgier style/personality, always have and always will, but I work in a really conservative office. I constantly feel like I’m leading a double life, but I need to pay the bills.
If you haven't heard of the Fashion & Lifestyle website 52 Thursdays yet, don't worry - you will shortly, because the two babes behind this up-and-coming website (Michelle Marcinowski & Sarah Gargagliano Phillips) are taking on the world of fashion straight from our nation's capital one Thursday at a time.
NTYLS: So, we always want to know - what inspired you to start your blog?
52 THURSDAYS: We are long time sorority sisters and friends who would spend countless hours dreaming up different business ideas…a few years later we finally decided to pull the trigger and collaborate on a fashion and lifestyle blog. It’s been a fun way to express our creativity and fashion sense but also a means to explore new ideas and an incentive to keep busy, push the limits and discover the next new thing. We want to inspire young ladies to do the same thing!
NTYLS: How would someone describe your style?
MICHELLE: Mine is ever- changing, depending on the mood I’m in really. Some days you will find me in an over-sized sweater or button down, jeans and converse, the next I’m in a silk blouse, blazer and heels. You will rarely catch me in a dress unless it’s a maxi in the summer or for a special occasion.
SARAH: My style changes depending on the day and activity but generally speaking I would say that my style is pretty classic and feminine. I love wearing skirts, dresses and you will rarely find me without a pair of heels on. And when I’m not dressed up in my girly garb you will most likely find me hanging around the house in a pair of ripped denim and a comfy tee.
NTYLS: So what does 52 Thursdays mean?
52 THURSDAYS: We actually get this a lot, since our name isn’t the typical blog name. We made it a habit to always meet up on Thursdays to catch up, drink some vino and swap ideas. Whether it be about fashion, food, fitness and eventually our blog! So we named ourselves 52 Thursdays after the many Thursdays that led us to where we are now.
NTYLS: Aww, we love that! So, now time for the lightening round. Starting with, what sister are you?
52 THURSDAYS: We both happen to be the little sister! Probably the reason why we mesh so well.
NTYLS: What advice would you give your younger self?
MICHELLE: “To let go and forget the mistakes of the past to make room for future greater achievements to remember forever.”
SARAH: If you aren't doing what you love everyday then don't waste another minute on it. Life is too short to be unhappy and to be doing something that you aren't passionate about.
NTYLS: The worst date you ever had was…
MICHELLE: I got all dressed up for our first date being promised dinner and a movie, just to be picked up in my own vehicle with a car full of his rowdy frat brothers. Needless to say we didn’t go to dinner. His spontaneous personality kept me intrigued and on my toes. He is now my husband, together for 8 years.
NTYLS: Aw, happy ending!! yeah!!
SARAH: I have been on a few disaster dates in my time but one that stands out in my mind was a guy that took me to dinner and talked about his ex-girlfriend non stop. Clearly he was not over her and by the end of dinner I knew more about his ex then I did about him. That was the first and last date with that guy..
NTYLS: When someone tells you “NO” you…
MICHELLE: Say “Please” and if you get a “no” the second time, accept ones opinion and move on.
SARAH: Working in sales for many years, I have heard the word “no” more times then I can count but I have learned when it is worth it to try to persuade the person the other way and when you should just walk away.
Three things you can’t live without (family doesn’t count)…
MICHELLE: My i phone- It’s sadly attached to my hand like super glue. Coffee- You don’t want to talk to me if I haven't had my morning cup of joe. My fur baby Louis- He makes me smile each and every day. I don't know what I would do with out him.
SARAH: I would also have to say my iPhone - being a blogger and working in social media, I really can’t be far from it. Which can be a blessing and a sometimes a curse. Exercise - I am addicted to exercise and Crossfit is my current obsession. It is such an amazing workout and really pushes me, which I love. Such a wonderful stress reliever as well. My dogs - we have two rescue mutts that are super high energy and absolutely insane but they make each day interesting and always keep me laughing. Love them.
Your guilty pleasure is….
MICHELLE: cheese. I seriously could eat it with anything.
SARAH: Candy, red wine and watching Bravo. And if its been a really awful day sometimes I will indulge in all three!
NTYLS: Thanks babes!! Best of luck, don't forget us when you're super famous.
We here at NTYLS have been obsessed with the fabulous San Francisco Bay Area Blogger Jyotsna Shankar of CUPPAJYO.COM for months now, and recently were so lucky to hear from her about her inspiration behind the site, her guilty pleasures and she even tells us what Cuppajyo stands for!
Tell us what inspired you to start Cuppajyo?
I started Cuppajyo in December 2013 as an online diary/journal to share with the world whatever inspired me in fashion, beauty, fitness, etc. As I went through this blogging journey, I realized that I wanted to focus on one aspect of it and eventually settled on a niche for Cuppajyo – it is now primarily a personal style blog with occasional beauty and lifestyle posts.
As cliché as this might sound – I have been passionate about fashion for the longest time. I enjoy living life one outfit at a time. The most fun part of my day is always the time when I decide my outfit for the next day! Not only do I love to play dress up myself, but it gives me immense joy to help others out and inspire them with my two cents of styling tips. All this ultimately made me decide to start my own blog and it has been an incredible experience so far!
How would someone describe your style? I definitely tend to gravitate towards more feminine styles. But I am very adventurous and open to try out different style genres. It all depends on what I am in the mood for!
How did you come up the name Cuppajyo?I wanted to keep my blog name short and sweet, yet personal. Everyone calls me Jyo (pronounced like plain ol “Joe”) which is why I played around the cuppajoe phrase to make it “Cuppajyo” literally meaning a cup of Jyo- your daily cuppa’ style inspo! ;)
Ok, now the rapid fire Q&A round!
What sister are you? I am the older sister. I have a sister 10 years younger than me J.
What advice would you give your younger self? The no 1 advice I would give my younger self is to follow your dream/passion and not be afraid to take the bold step in doing so! I completely switched careers recently and I am so glad I did it finally. But at the same time I also wish I had the guts to have done it much earlier in my life.
When someone tells you “NO” you…. Depends on what they’re telling me “No” for ;). If it’s a pair of shoes – then there goes a Jyo tantrum haha! Just kidding! But yeah, I guess it depends on what the issue is. If its not too important it dosen’t bother me. But if its something I really wanted, then I would think about why he/she told me NO and judge for myself if it was reasonable or not.
Three things you can’t live without (family doesn’t count)… So other than family, the 3 things I cant live without – my phone, coffee and my favorite lipstick!
Your guilty pleasure is…. Anything with dark Chocolate and of course deeming retail therapy as a cure to anything! ;)
